Students make the data tables for the report. Use a Google Doc. This Lab Report will be submitted on Classroom. This is a Summative Assessment.
Use the microscopes to identify four macroinvertebrates from among the samples.
It is also good practice to measure the length of the organism.
Make observations. What color is it? What features does it have ?
Quantitative data : Make a measurement in cm.
Take a picture of each one. Label your picture using Google Draw or in a Google Doc. Put the identification and any particular features that you observe. Point out features with an arrow.
WEB Research :Choose ONE macroinvertebrate to investigate as a species profile, as part of the lab report.
Conclusion:
a. Explain the significance of the types of macroinvertebrates found in the creek.
b. What does the biotic index reveal about the creek? ( Check the posted data from the field study)
Here is some sample data is below.
c. What would we need to do to have a more valid conclusion?
Test the Creek Water sample:
Test the Lab Water form the faucet:
Test the D.I. filtered water ( deionized water):
Conclusion:
a. Briefly compare and contrast the water samples.
b. Is the Tulpehocken water clean?
c. What would we need to do to have a more valid scientific conclusion?
