Supported and sponsored by the U.S. Army Cadet Command, this advanced-level course is designed with the rigor of an AP program and aims to prepare students for industry-recognized CompTIA certifications—a valuable stepping stone into the world of cybersecurity.

CompTia A+ Certification Course (Level 1 Cyber Security)

The course begins with fundamental JROTC Leadership Training. Cyber year one focuses on the foundational skills needed to begin a pathway into cybersecurity. It begins with an introduction to ethics and cybersecurity, moves on to global connectivity, and then transitions to understanding hardware, operating systems, networks, cryptography, and operating procedures. The course ends with a service learning oriented capstone project that encourages problem solving and team building. This course covers topics associated withCompTIA A+ certification.

The course begins with fundamental JROTC Leadership Training. This course delves into themore technical aspects of the field, providing a firm foundation in network architecture and security. Students also learn about cybersecurity crime and cybersecurity law, while tying these concepts to citizenship and government. The course ends with a Python programming bootcamp and a service learning capstone project that focuses on leadership skills.

In year three, the course starts with JROTC Leadership Training. Next, students build upon their understanding of security controls and deepening their understanding of riskmanagement, cryptography, and system hardening. Additionally, they explore digital forensics, threat modeling, and secure software development. When the course concludes,the students should be comfortable with topics associated with CompTIA’s Security+ certification exam.

CompTia Security+ Certification Course (Level 4 Cyber Security)
Pre-requisite Successful completion of Security+ or Instructor Approved
Fundamental JROTC Leadership Training kicks off the final year. The course also allows thestudents to learn the offensive side of cybersecurity while delving into advanced cybersecurity topics. Students explore specialized areas, such as forensics, compliance, reverse engineering, and SCADA. Students learn ethical hacking, beginning with the legal aspects of the topic and progressing through planning and scoping, performing vulnerability scanning and penetration testing, and analyzing and reporting the results. This year alsofocuses heavily on wireless communication and includes an introduction to the C++ programming language. The course covers topics relevant to CompTIA’s PenTest+ exam andprovides an extended capstone to allow students to focus on a select topic of interest.
