Essential Agreements

As a class, we will decide on our essential agreements.

• Be gentle with words and actions

• Be safety conscious and practice good hygiene

• Be a hand raiser to talk or ask questions

• Be respectful to all

• Be forgiving

• Sit in chairs properly to avoid hurting ourselves and others

• Be a helpful friend to others

We also created laptop/technology essential agreements. Each student will be assigned a computer for the year. Students will learn how to care for, clean, and maintain their individual class computer.

• Hold computer with both hands when walking

• Treat technology respectfully (tap on keyboard with gentle force/ do not eat snacks while using)

• Visit only approved sites (BPS safety filter)

• Only use your laptop #

• Unplug and plug in computers properly

• **If a student does not follow our agreements they will lose laptop privileges

Classroom Management

• Growth Mindset: School wide focus on developing this kind of mindset for life-long learning. "Students who demonstrate a growth mindset believe their abilities develop over time, tend to seek out opportunities to gain new knowledge and broaden their skills.... "(Kazakoff & Mitchell, 2017.)

• Conscious Discipline (Becky Bailey author): School-wide focus and training this year. BPS Schools endorsed management system.

• AKT (Always Respectful, Kind & Truthful) Website Link: Indialantic adopted book with scenarios on lifeskills.

• Class DoJo: Students help to select skills that we will emphasize in the classroom from out essential agreements. I will send out a parent invitation with the code so you can view our class story, individual points, and portfolio. (We are going to be "test driving" the new curricular forms of social media.)

• Indialantic Life-skills: We focus on a set of life skills school-wide each week. This group of psychosocial competencies and interpersonal skills help people make informed decisions, communicate effectively, build healthy relationships, empathize with others, solve problems, think critically and creatively, and cope with and manage their lives in a healthy, responsible manner.
