Current Due Item(s): Athlete Check List (Due 11/21/25)
The practice schedule is subject to change. Check the schedule weekly in order to note any changes. Any immediate /sudden changes will be texted through Remind. It is recommended that you check the practice schedule for any changes on the weekend. Any changes will be made by the Friday before the upcoming week.
High School Practices - Practice will begin promptly at 2:45pm. Plan on being done with practice between 4:15 -4:20 pm
Please have your rides pick you up promptly. It is advised to have your ride arrive by 4:10pm. We (Coaches) are responsible for you until you have been picked up. We CANNOT continue to wait around for your ride to pick you up after our expected end time. If your ride is late more than 1 time, you will be asked to not come to practice until you can resolve this issue.
Event Training - will take place on a scheduled basis in order to maximize practice productivity. This will be based on the coaches discretion and the schedule will be focused on the need and athletes that are dedicating the time. Please check the block plan linked on the Track and Field Calendar (2024 -25) or 2024 - 25 Training Cycle Calendar/Block Plan. If you are an athlete involved in multiple sports and/or activities and you cannot decide if you can make the commitment to track and field, please email Coach Ryan (ryans@shalerarea.org) and Coach Filo (filoj@wmasd.org) in order to schedule a time to meeting in order to discuss this concern.
Dual/Multi Sport Athletes - We have had several dual sport athletes in the past and continue to see our most successful athletes either play multiple sports or even dual sport. If you are a dual sport athlete, it is important for you to communicate with both of your coaches and establish a plan for the season. Take a few minutes to speak with with your coaches to establish a plan for the season.
Practice Attire - Be prepared to be outside on ALL occasions. If the late winter/early spring temperatures are unseasonably warm (35 degrees or higher). It is VERY important that practice attire adherers to school district policy (More detail in Athletic Expectations ). PLEASE CHECK the weather forecast prior to packing your bag. You do NOT want to be outside training in shorts and a t-shirt when it's 35 degrees outside.
Spikes - Running Warehouse is a great source for a variety of shoes with great descriptions on what shoes to buy. I recommend any beginner to buy a pair of spikes that are universal. Sprints/Jumps Spike for short sprints and jumpers and Mid Distance/Distance Spikes for the 800, 1600, 3200 runner. They do make more specific spikes for jumps. Also, throwing shoes can vary in the style of throw.
SPRINTERS and JUMPERS, bring your spikes EVERYDAY. THIS SEASON we will have the opportunity to sprint train indoor on our BRAND NEW INDOOR TRACK SURFACE. Short Sprinters, Jumpers, Hurdlers will be spiked up at least 1 day a week during the winter season. An experienced track athlete will bring spikes EVERYDAY.
Transportation Waiver - This transportation waiver us used for special transportation circumstances outline in the Student Athlete Handbook as noted in the transportation policy acknowledgement.
