As posted on the Class Goals page, our time in the STREAM lab is collaborative. With that in mind, I have established 8 behavioral and growth mindset skills for students, that are supported by me and an instructional aide working in our lab, in order to become the best version of ourselves as collaborative and cooperative design team members and classmates. These skills are not unique to STREAM; they are important for all areas of life.Â
The STREAM lab experience is an opportunity to better understand and improve these skills. Over the course of the first semester, students are introduced to these skills. My expectation is for students to recognize their areas of strength with these skills as well as identify those in which they need to grow.
8 STREAM Skills:
Acceptance- being open to differences and embracing others for exactly who they are
Accountability- upholding the commitments you make to yourself and to others
Active Listening- concentrating on a person's words, comprehending what is said, and applying what is learned
Communication- conveying messages through writing, speech, facial expressions, and body language
Conflict Resolution- working with others to peacefully end disagreement
Encouragement- using positive words and actions to inspire self-confidence in others
Respect- valuing the qualities, ideas, time, property, and personal space of others
Teamwork- working together to achieve a common goal
