Students will be engaged in units that help to unpack the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for each grade level. I will also work to implement essential science laboratory work (through demonstrations and simulations) to reinforce content and skills that are a part of STEM learning. Science is FUN!
I will be sharing resources with students which will help them to build an Interactive Science Notebook and their foundational science knowledge throughout the year. The hope of this interactive notebook (INB) approach is to assist all students in the practice of note-taking, organization of data and charts, and to build scientific vocabulary and a study/reference guide over time. There is a hard-copy composition notebook that is a required supply and students will add to, but students will also be building digital notebook elements throughout the year.
Grades 7 & 8 will participate in a school Science and Engineering Fair to demonstrate their understanding of scientific method and engineering design through an individual project that explores a topic of interest. Click on the button provided for more information.

Homework, class or lab work, participation, etc. is considered a formative assessment – students learning by doing, often in dialogue with others, including classmates and parents.
Tests, quizzes, lab reports, and alternative assessments are considered a summative assessment – students demonstrating what they know on their own. This may include major group work projects with individual accountability built in.
Tests/Projects are weighted at 60%
Quizzes and Lab Reports are 20%
Interactive Notebooks and Classwork 10%
