Before the Unit
Display: Show the presentation bellow:
Prompt: Today, we’re going to learn how to learn about 3D printing and create our own 3D keychain with our name on it. Here’s one that has been printed already [pass on the 3D printed keychain that you’ve printed in advance as an example].
Video: Show the 3D Printing video from the slides.
💡: Don't hesitate to briefly stop at key moments in the video to allow for students to react and integrate. Example: stop when you see the 3D printed shoes, "Wow! Does anybody want those shoes??"
Discussion: Ask the class about their feedback and any other object they’ll like to create.
Showcase: Gather everybody around the 3D Printer and explain the basis of how it works.
⚠️: Make sure to cover:
💡: It'll be easier for students to grasp the 3D printing process if they is something printing while you showcase it.
Set-up: Send each student back to their computer and make sure they’re logged-in the Age of Makers Game.
Quest: This unit is linked to the first Quest of the Game in the 3D Valley.
Tips: You can use your own screen that you’re projecting with the game to guide the students.
Steps: The quest will guide the students to do those steps
Warning: It’s important here to guide the students to log-in with their Google account and not create a new account. You can guide by sharing your screen.
Share: Call all the class attention, and ask to share some of their learnings & exciting aspect of designing in 3D.
Print: start a print for one of the students that have a finished design to show the students how their virtual design is becoming real.
