Summer Assignment
Incoming 6th Graders
Dear 6th graders and families,
I hope this family finds you and your families well. I hope your summer will be a safe one. Middle school is an important time for you as the choices and habits you make here will follow you through your academic career. So make the most of these years and learn all that you can.
This year’s summer assignment is the Spectrum Math Grade 5. It can be found in any Barnes and Noble or Staples or, of course, online. You are asked to complete 2 pages per day, 10 per week. It is important to remember that the purpose of summer assignments is to consistently practice the skills that you have learned this year.
Two months is a long time to be out of school and you can easily forget all of the wonderful things that you have learned this year without practicing. And after all, practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to math. And now more than ever, with distance learning over the past couple of months, the review will be crucial to next year’s success.
With this in mind, it is not recommended that you do your assignments in one or two sittings, but a little each day. Of course, we know life can get busy. There are people to see, games to play, and vacations to take. But we want to try not to defeat the purpose of a summer assignment. If you'd like more practice or a challenge, feel free to complete the book.
Be safe overall and have a good and restful summer.
