6th Grade Mathematics

Summer Assignment

This year's summer assignment is on ALEKS. I ask that you complete 15 topics a week, 120 for the summer. It is important to remember that the purpose of summer assignments is to consistently practice the skills that you have learned this year.

This summer more than ever, being home and distance learning, you are more susceptible to forgetting much of what you learned over the past few months. Two months is a long time to be out of school and you can easily forget all of the wonderful things that you have learned this year without practicing. And after all, practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to math. This year it is crucial that you practice to ensure next year’s success.

With this in mind, it is not recommended that you do your assignments in one or two sittings, but a little each day. 3 per day/5 days a week shouldn't take you more than 5-10 min. I have created one assignment this year instead of separate ones. So it is up to you when you do them, however I will stress again, it is better that you spread them out. Of course, we know life can get busy. There are people to see, games to play, and vacations to take. But we want to try not to defeat the purpose of a summer assignment. Try a little each day so that you don't get overwhelmed trying to do them all at the end of the summer. This will count as your first gade next year. Hope you have a restful summer. Have fun, good luck and be safe.

March-

Now that we've done ratios, we will see how ratios and percents are alike.

February-

Ratios, Rates and Proportions

We will look at ratios and how we can use them to solve problems. Understand how to use unit rates and how we can use them to find a better buy.

And we will learn to solve proportions using cross multiplication.

January-

Fractions

November-

We are going back... We will be reviewing decimals and operations on decimals. Make sure you know those multiplication tables!

We will follow this up with all of our pre-fraction topics; factors multiples simplifying and converting improper to proper fractions and vice versa.

October-

We are practicing Algebra. Substitute and evaluate using order of operations, solving one and two step equations using inverse operations and translating words and phrases into mathematical expressions and sentences in order to help us solve word problems.

When we complete the algebra topics, we will be moving onto decimals.

Welcome back!!

This month we will be reviewing all of our basics.

Numbers and Number groups including understanding integers, Place Value and rounding, word form, and order of operations.

Next, we will be moving to basic Algebra where we will be learning to Translate, substitute and evaluate, and properly solve equations using inverse operations. This will be especially helpful when we start dealing with equations in science.
