7th Grade Mathematics

Summer Assignment

This year's summer assignment is on ALEKS. I ask that you complete 15 topics a week, 120 for the summer. It is important to remember that the purpose of summer assignments is to consistently practice the skills that you have learned this year.

This summer more than ever, being home and distance learning, you are more susceptible to forgetting much of what you learned over the past few months. Two months is a long time to be out of school and you can easily forget all of the wonderful things that you have learned this year without practicing. And after all, practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to math. This year it is crucial that you practice to ensure next year’s success.

With this in mind, it is not recommended that you do your assignments in one or two sittings, but a little each day. 3 per day/5 days a week shouldn't take you more than 5-10 min. I have created one assignment this year instead of separate ones. So it is up to you when you do them, however I will stress again, it is better that you spread them out. Of course, we know life can get busy. There are people to see, games to play, and vacations to take. But we want to try not to defeat the purpose of a summer assignment. Try a little each day so that you don't get overwhelmed trying to do them all at the end of the summer. This will count as your first gade next year. Hope you have a restful summer. Have fun, good luck and be safe.

We will learn about ways to Collect data using surveys concidering population, samples, random choosing and bias

Know how to create different plots to organize data... Dot/Line plot, Stem and leaf, Box-and-whisker, scatterplot

Understand different types of graphs- Circle, bar, Line, Histogram, and the uses of each

Measures of data- mean, median, mode and range

Mean absolute deviation

November-

Back to basics...

We are making sure we know all of our basics... We can't properly deal with rational numbers until our basics are mastered. We will review decimals and operations using decimals. We will work on changing fractions into decimals and decimals into fractions.

We will review fractions and all operations with fractions. We will round this out by solving equations including all rational numbers.

October-

We are doing more practice on solving equations with multiple variables on the same side, on opposite sides and involving the distributive property. We will also begin practicing translating sentences to use for word problems.

Following algebra, we will move back to basics with decimals and fractions.

Welcome back!!

This month we will be reviewing all of our basics and starting with number groups.

Rational and Irrational Numbers, Number Groups(Natural, Whole, Integers), Order of Operations and Basic Properties, Operations on integers.

We will be following this up with basic Algebra - Translating, Subtitute and Evaluate(with order of operations), Solving
