Absences from School and Make-up Assignments:
If a student is absent from Physical Education class, excused or not excused, the student must make up the class*.
Board of Education policy 6163.5 specifies that students who are absent from class will receive a "missing" on their daily report which equates to a zero "0" on their daily assessment which will be calculated toward their end term grade. Students will have the opportunity to make-up the class by contacting the teacher who will determine an appropriate alternative assessment. For both middle school and high school students, alternative assessments may include written work or a take-home physical activity sheet. For high school students only, make-up sessions may also be offered during school hours and/or after school, depending on teacher availability. Students are responsible for contacting the teacher within an appropriate time frame (5 school days from the day of absence) to schedule the make-up assignment.
* Students who are absent from class due to school-related events (such as field trips, assemblies, early dismissals for extracurriculars, or being taken out of class by an administrator, counselor, or other school staff member) will receive an "exempt" on their daily report. This exempt mark indicates that the specific missed class will not be counted toward the student’s end-of-term grade and does not require a make-up assignment. These absences are recognized as excused and part of a student’s school responsibilities or support services.
