"Don't forget your long pants at home!" --> (Unfortunately, this has happened before. You need long pants for every hike. Please bring long pants.)
"Pack an extra pair of socks because your suitcase might be messy and you can't find your other sock so you use your back-up pairs of socks (it's very useful)"
"Bring a backpack because it will be much easier to have your water bottle and other stuff in your backpack then carrying it by hand"
"Don't bring axe spray just bring deodorant instead."
"Bring a big pillow and sleep well."
"Do not be shy to bring a doll/stuffed animal/blanket to sleep with."
"BRING EVERYTHING ON THE PACKING LIST! EVEN THE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED STUFF! And, DO NOT FORGET THE LIP BALM! I didn't bring lip balm and I seriously regretted it because my lips got so dry and cracked.
Worried?
Don't worry about Science Camp! Science Camp is so fun that you will most likely not get nervous or miss home, Science Camp is REALLY fun!
"Don't worry. You'll be fine. You'll have so much fun you won't even have time to be worried. But come prepared!"
"If you are ever scared about anything, your field instructor will take care of all of you and is probably even certified in CPR. So you're fine. This is your chance to not do school stuff and get away from the routine of home. There is no reason to worry because worrying is useless. SO DON'T WORRY! DO! NOT! WORRY! YOU WILL BE PERFECTLY FINE."
"If you are worried about being away from your comforting home, you will have not much time to think about home, really because you will be mostly preoccupied except for at recess and sleep time. But, don't worry, you'll be probably too sleepy to think much, and honestly, who wants to hang around thinking about home at recess? You will want a break. Like I said, you will be constantly preoccupied."
Cabins/Showers
"Don't worry about the showers, they are warm"
"You should definitely practice taking two minute showers and changing in your sleeping bag"
"You should keep your cabin clean. You want the most bling!"
"Make your bed super tidy."
"People will tell you about the 2 minute showers. Don't stress about that, it is not that bad."
"At night when you go to sleep think only of good thoughts."
"The cabins are nice. There is a carpeted floor, nice bunkbeds, and a really nice cabin leader."
"If you are worried about being separated from your friends and not ending up in the same cabin as them, not to worry, you will probably end up with at least ONE PERSON that you are okay with. And, field classes are not the same as cabins, so you could be in the same field class as your friends even if they're not in your cabin."
Field Class
"Use the bathroom when you have the chance to go."
"Go to the bathroom before you hike"
"Bring a lot of water on hikes!"
"You should always sing along to songs and not just sit there because if you don't have camp spirit then you kind of look lame."
"Nature names are something you get to pick at science camp. You don't necessarily have to be like you nature name, you just have to pick one and your cabin leader and field instructor will know you as that."
"Field class is lots of journaling, hiking, observing, lookin' around, sitting in dirt, working together, falling down, getting back up, seeing lots and lots of deer, and mostly having fun with everything in nature. You'll see so much cool stuff."
Mealtimes
"Be safe, respectful, and responsible. If you are you might get a hand stamp! Hand stamps get you into dinner early."
"Be careful about the amount of food on your plate, or else you might have a lot of food waste."
"You will be fed perfectly, and the food is simply delicious, especially on the first day because you'll be so hungry. On the day before you leave, you will go on an epic journey out in the woods, so you'll miss lunch in the dining hall. You're probably thinking, 'Oh no, sandwiches', but the sandwiches are great as well."
