Membership
If you would like more information about your child joining 1st Send Scouts, please email our Membership Secretary at membership@sendscouts.org.uk
Our entry criteria is assessed in the following order,
Leader’s Children – All 1st Send Leader’s children will have immediate entry to the appropriate Section unless they are too young to join – if is the case the child(ren) will take a priority place when they become old enough to join under the Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR) of the Scout Association. This method of entry will be extended to the children of new Adult Leader volunteers.
Moving up – The Group will endeavour to provide a place for every young person moving up through the Group from Squirrels to Beavers, Beavers to Cubs and from Cubs to Scouts. This place may be lost if the young person is unwilling to move up when scheduled by the Group Scout Leader or his deputy in accordance with the POR.
Transfers – The POR of the Scout Association provide for the entry of existing members transferring from outside the area. A space must be offered at the next available intake should the Section have capacity.
Siblings – The Group will endeavour to have places available for all siblings of current Group members, although immediate entry when that sibling reaches the ages set by POR will be subject to capacity constraints of the Section.
Residents of Send Village – As the Scout Group is serving the village of Send, places will be offered to residents who reside within the boundaries of the area covered by Send Parish Council, subject to availability after the previous criteria have been satisfied.
Those who attend Send CofE Primary School – The children of residents of neighbouring villages (e.g. – Old Woking, Westfield or Ripley) who attend this school will be offered places subject to availability, after the previous criteria have been satisfied.
Other – Those who are not covered under the criteria above will be offered a place, subject to availability after the previous criteria have been satisfied.
The Group Scout Leader or their deputies reserve the right to refuse or delay the offer of a place due to the Section capacity, position on the Group waiting list or other reasonable reason in line with the Policy, Organisation and Rules of the Scout Association.
Should the parents of a particular applicant be willing to volunteer regularly in support of Group activities and fundraising events in a non-uniformed capacity (e.g. Group Executive member, Member of fundraising committee or Group Supporter) this may be taken into account in the allocation of a place.
