Cubs
Cubs are aged between eight and ten and a half years and can be boys or girls - the activities they get involved in are an extension of those in Beavers and tend to be more adventurous and challenging with a greater emphasis on the basic Scouting skills. Cubs have the opportunity to camp, have a go at cooking, canoeing, woodland games and tracking and compass work. You can contact the Cubs leadership team at cubs@sendscouts.org.uk
Our Cub Pack meet every Monday during the school term-times from 6.00pm to 7.30pm at our Headquarters in Send.
About our Cub Scout Leaders
Our Cub Scout Leader (CSL), Rob Barnes, leads a strong team of Assistant Cub Scout Leaders (ACSL's) and Young Leaders in providing an enthusiastic and busy programme of activities for the Pack members.
Adult Leaders in the Cub Section are usually known by names from Rudyard Kipling's 'Jungle Book' - CSL Rob is 'Bagheera' (often known as 'Baggy' for short) and ACSLs Matt, Geraint, John and Max are Kaa, Shere Khan, Ziggy and Baloo respectively - and, yes, they do answer to these names in conversations with parents!!
We sometimes have openings for volunteer adults to become Assistant Leaders in the Cub section. If you wish to find out more, please contact us!
What are the Cubs doing?
The Cubs enjoy getting badges and over a typical year there are projects to gain the Home Help, Handyman, Animal Carer, Cyclist and Athlete Badges to name but a few. The Programme tends to be both varied and interesting and half the time the youngsters don't even realise that they have been working towards a badge until the night it is presented.
The youngsters have camped at Bentley Copse, had a visit from the Police Dog Team as part of a Community Challenge project, canoed on the River Wey and have had a sleep-over on HMS Cavilier at Chatham.
See our Uniform page for information on where Cub Badges should be positioned.
Interested in having your child join our Cub Pack?
Such a busy and popular Section tends to be fully subscribed but, occasionally, a space comes up so if your child hasn't managed to get into the Pack by natural progression from Beavers, and you wish to get him / her into Cubs, please email us at : membership@sendscouts.org.uk
New members will be able to have a number of 'taster' sessions to see if they settle in before any subscriptions are due and uniforms are purchased, so why not give Cubs a go?
Information on where to get uniforms, and what items are necessary can be found on our 'Uniform' page.
