The purpose of this course is to become more aware of what it is like to live as someone else does and recognize some of the ways in which we are not being inclusive or supportive in our society and in our day-to-day lives. This year's focus is on wheelchair accessibility. Students will spend time in a wheelchair, attempting to go through their daily routine and visit places they would normally go to in our neighbourhood. They will have the opportunity to speak to people while visiting a centre that provides programming and courses to those who use wheelchairs. They will learn about human rights and activists who have been working to improve the current situation for people who use wheelchairs. Final projects in this course include raising awareness to local businesses about universal accessibility and performing an analysis of accessibility in our own school.
