Bob Waskiewicz: Farmer, Disabled Veteran, and Advocate for Service, Life Long Rotarian
Bob Waskiewicz is the caretaker of Meadowbrook Farm in Westford, Massachusetts, and Rockbottom Farm in Stow, Massachusetts. His life’s work on the land and in service has been shaped by humble beginnings, deep family values, and a lifelong commitment to helping others.
Bob grew up in Webster, Massachusetts, a small Central Massachusetts mill and farming town. His family lived modestly, often week to week, as his father worked tirelessly to cover medical expenses for Bob’s mother, who lived with multiple sclerosis. Despite these challenges, Bob’s parents instilled in him the values of resilience, generosity, and compassion. His mother, who lived into her 90s, never stopped finding ways to help others regularly bringing food to food pantries and supporting families who were struggling, even when resources were limited.
Bob’s love of farming began early on his family farm, where he helped grow food and raise chickens, pigs, ducks, and the family milk cow. As a child, he delivered eggs and vegetables to local stores, learning firsthand how growing food could directly support and nourish a community.
After graduating high school, Bob joined the United States Army, serving four years both across the country and overseas. His service exposed him to the realities of poverty in Southeast Asia and deepened his appreciation for service, sacrifice, and community. Following his military service, Bob worked his way through Nichols College in Dudley Massachusetts, and Harvard University, while building a career in the insurance and financial services industry, a profession, he continues in today.
At just 28 years old, while working two jobs, Bob purchased his first 100 acres of land, which remains permanently protected today. Twenty-five years ago, alongside thousands of fellow Westford residents, Bob and his former partner Bob Webb, helped save Meadowbrook Farm from development. Together, they preserved 84 acres under a conservation and estate trust, ensuring the land would remain protected forever.
Today, Meadowbrook Farm grows food exclusively for those in need, donating 100% of its harvest to food banks and food pantries. Through Good Pickin' Farm, the land also serves children and families year-round welcoming thousands each year to experience farming, animals, crops, and nature in a meaningful and educational way.
As a veteran and a former Fire and Police Dispatcher, Bob carries a deep respect and compassion for First Responders, Veterans, and those who serve both country and community. That commitment continues to guide the mission of the farms today.
