As a human being, we tend to be impacted more by negative events rather than the positive ones. In psychology it is called “Negativity Bias”.

Overthink the insult than a compliment
Emotionally and Physically focus more to negative stimuli
Hold/ can not let go of unpleasant / traumatic events for a long time.
