Workshop Framing

In this course we will use maps, art, objects, primary sources and most especially place and landscape, in tandem with the major events of this time period to explore the history of Native people and colonists in 17th century New England and the legacy of this time today.

We will be using maps and places as a lens: How can we tell a more complicated story of land and power than one that has been traditionally taught in our classrooms? How can we carry over what we learn about this time period to look at the history and present experiences of Native people in our own communities? How might we rewrite these narratives?

This timeline provides on overview of key events of the time period and beyond related to Native and colonial New England.
