CLASS OVERVIEW

Welcome to fifth grade English Language Arts! Learners in Mrs. Goodness' class will study reading, writing, and grammar across multiple topics. Fifth graders will establish an independent reading and writing routine, create their own stories following the storytelling arc, and read grade level books across various genres. Students will engage in literature circles, novel studies, adjective fashion shows, make plentiful connections, and organize information to discuss research based argument essays. Grammar usage and mechanics will guide writing and all learning will expand our vocabulary, enhance reading comprehension, reinforce reading strategies, and expand knowledge of literary elements of literature. We will use technology to broaden our lens on academics and partake in grammar conventions, figurative language, vocabulary learning, and research strategies. We will use our learned strategies to engage in a Civil Rights Unit near the end of the school year.
