In this inquiry, I would like to build learner agency in any environment. Giving students the opportunity to grow their learning at their own pace and on their own motivation. As a teacher in an ILE, I recognise the importance for students to have the resources and lessons necessary at their disposal online. So that they can advance their learning when they aren't with their teacher. A skill that will carry them well throughout their lives.
Students were chosen to be surveyed based on their answers to a focusing survey (which was given to the class), which asked a variety of general questions on agency. Of the students that responded, these responses came through as the least confident among the class. From the less confident responses, students were chosen.
Children are completing a weekly survey during their literacy time on a Wednesday.
Hapara has been set up on all school emails for the students in class.
I plan to familiarise myself with Hapara so that I can see and assign work that students can access.
See the need for the teaching of goal setting, creating easy goals that can be achieved to potentially boost self-efficacy and determination (with visible progress).
Asking questions to the class of their goal setting ability and who confident they feel in this area.
Students growing more knowledgeable about Hapara, still preferring to complete work on Seesaw if possible.
Presentation of my progress to staff. Slides available above and at the link here.
Class has improved a lot in their self-management skills since the beginning of the inquiry. Can attribute a lot of this to their familiarity with the class structure.
See the need for the creation of set of guidelines within the class for the use of devices at the beginning of the lesson. Short burst of controlled learning potentially leading the way to agency down the line. This prompted a new avenue to explore when doing my inquiry.
Class is
Discussion with Allison about my current classroom, thinking about how to maximize the learning here so that the students are prepared for their transition into Year 7.
Inquiry on hold while students and myself are at Year 6 camp.
I can see that the class are getting into their routine, I don't feel the need to meet with them at the beginning of the lesson to set up expectations anymore, can get right into the lessons with individual groups.
Team attended a PD session at the Hapara office, learning how best to utilize the software for learning in class.
