When running events at the Conway Centre, the dock area is our normal centre of operations. It is accessed by a relatively steep path/road that is also used by the National Trust, Conway Centre and visiting public. The dock area itself has a main building ('the Seamanship Room') where buoyancy aids and some equipment is stored as well as two smaller stores ('the Radar Room' and the fuel store). The Radar Room is used as a workshop and is the store for boat safety packs. There is access to a floating pontoon via a metal bridge and also to a slipway. The edge of the dock is surrounded by a metal fence except at the pontoon and slipway edge,
Care walking to dock - tractor and other vehicles.
If driving, speed limit is 5 mph.
Members of the public are not allowed in the dock area
No-one should access the pontoon or slipway without wearing a personal flotation device
For wheelchair users, restraining belts to be undone before leaving confines of access bridge or top of slipway. If restraining belts are required for postural support, webbing straps/slings are to be used with an appropriate quick release and individual plan discussed and in place which may include specific designated assistant.
Participants should be briefed on the dangers of fall from dock side and should not be allowed to climb on fence.
Care should be taken to avoid crush injury or entrapment between pontoon and bridge. Participants should be briefed and area managed when bridge is approaching horizontal during high tides.
Participants and volunteers should be briefed on correct lifting and moving techniques prior to moving boats from racks or around on trailers
