This guidance has been written to accompany three lessons exploring the importance of dental health and oral hygiene. The lessons aim to raise awareness of the impact of good oral hygiene and dental health behaviours, and to equip young people with the skills and strategies they need to care for their own dental health. A lesson has been designed for key stage 1 which explores keeping teeth healthy, a lesson for key stage 2 encouraging good oral hygiene including flossing and regular check-ups at the dentist, and a lesson at key stage 3 encouraging independence both in maintaining dental health and in accessing dental health services. Teachers should read and consider this guidance first, before delivering the lessons.
