This is a short animated clip that I created for an event called GigaJam, which is essentially a hackathon for Computer Graphics and Animation students, or anyone who has some level of experience or interest in creating 3D creations. I worked together with three other students to compile a montage of differently stylised animations with a common theme of "On Thin Ice". The plot of the animation was four different characters picked up a camera whilst either standing on or standing near a frozen lake. Once the character obtains their camera, a fat bird would land on the ice, causing it to shatter. The signature whistle of the bird would symbolise its presence, leaving the character to be startled when the ice cracked and they and their camera lose their balance.
For my interpretation, I decided to mix a 2D and 3D approach, in which I 3D modelled the environment in Maya and Blender, and 2D animated the figure and the bird in the background by hand. I then pieced the two together in Blender, applied some simple shaders to keep the minimalistic effect of the environment, and toggled the lighting a bit in the Cycles render. A very simple and short animation, but it was sufficient given the allotted timeframe of 36 hours.
