Urban Street of Hybrid Services

DESIGN QUESTION

The edge of the site on one side faces the street that is majorly used by 4 wheelers and for some Auto Rickshaw & BMC trucks parking during the day. The huge walls all along the BMC offices further demotivates any kind of physical & non physical interaction at this edge. Moreover, there is no public toilet or drinking water facility for people passing by. Hence the ambition of the project is to rethink this wall edge as a threshold space that allows for the existing activities as well as new programs of open gym, resting/sitting spaces and many more. It does so by asking the question, how can the already existing infrastructural opportunities of the site become the guiding tool for the different architectural opportunities to emerge and grow?

DESIGN INTENT

To rethink this wall edge as a threshold space that allows for the existing activities as well as new programs of an open gym, resting/sitting spaces and more.

DESIGN PROGRAM

The program consists of Water Tanks which has been used to provide water drinking facilities and public toilets, also creating a 'breaking the barrier' notion. The footpath includes Sitting Spaces and a Rain Shelter/ Gathering Space. It also connects to the extensions of the nearby structures which are Public Toilets, Viewing Docks and a Garden. This type of system would incentivize people to plugin different programs over the time, thus, increasing the interaction with the street.
