Equipment

Ground Penetrating Radar

The MALA GX (with 160, 450 and 750 MHz antennas) is the workhorse of the Lab's activities. Students and researchers have used GPR to map lake sediments, understand complex dune fields, locate burials, map modern and former river channels

Geodetics Point & Pixel UAV

Geodectics has custom-built a DJI Matrice 600-Pro to serve as a multi-sensor mapping platform. The system is equipped with photogrammetry, LiDAR and a multispectral sensor for landscape imagining and RTK-GPS and PPK-GPS for locating imagery in real world space.

DJI UAVs

The Lab has three DJI Phantoms and one DJI Inspire. These serve as the workhorse platform for recon-level mapping and student work with photogrammetry projects. Imagery form the UAVs are processed using Agisoft Metashape and integrated with other geologic data in ArcGIS for analysis

Photogrammetry

The members of the Lab have been working with photogrammetry techniques such as Structure from Motion, stacked images, time lapses, gigapixel panoramics and photoshperes to enhance our understanding of the landscapes around us and convey the importance of changes to landscapes

Reach RS2 RTK-GPS

The members of the Lab have been using Real Time Kinematic Global Positioning Systems (RTK-GPS) increase the accuracy of our UAV and GPR surveys in areas where high precision is required. The lab has a suite of Emlid Reach RS2 antennas that can be configured to operate as stand alone GPS or as base-rover pairs for survey grade GPS surveying with precisions in the sub-cm range.
