The application process for the 2025-2026 academic year is now closed.
Application & Selection Process
Thank you for your interest in the Residential Education Faculty-in-Residence (FIR) program at San Diego State University. Our application and selection process has three components - an optional information session, an application, and a formal interview.
Information Sessions
Candidates interested in the Faculty in Residence program for the 2025-2026 academic year are invited to an information session, which includes an informal meet & greet with professional and paraprofessional staff, and a residence hall tour. Please select a session that works for your schedule and RSVP by clicking the button below. Information sessions are not required as part of the application process, but it is highly recommended.
January 31, 2025: Informational Session & Residence Hall Tour - Tula Community Center (Noon)
February 6, 2025: Informational Session & Residence Hall Tour - Tula Community Center (5pm)
February 7, 2024: Virtual Information Session - Zoom (Noon)
Application
Following the informational sessions, interested candidates may then submit a completed application that includes brief responses to short essay questions and the submission of a résumé or curriculum vitae along with two letters of support; one from an undergraduate student and the other from your Dean, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Chair or direct supervisor.
The letters of support should speak to your ability to create curricular and co-curricular experiences (particularly for first-year and sophomore students) and your willingness to form strong connections with residents to help create an intentional residential education experience for students.
Interested candidates can access the application by clicking the button below. Candidates are encouraged to review the application, draft responses to the short essay questions in a separate document, collect the supplemental materials, and then submit all materials together.
Formal Interview
Select candidates will then be invited to participate in a formal interview process, which provides additional opportunities to meet with professional staff and current members of the Faculty-in-Residence program.
The Faculty in Residence is selected by the Residential Education Office based on candidates’ talents and interests and their commitment to Residential Education’s mission and values. To meet the goals of the program, we give preference to faculty members who regularly teach undergraduates. We also hope to represent the disciplinary diversity of the campus among the FIR team.
