Minimum Qualifications
FIRs must be full-time, tenure, tenure-track or continuing contract members of the standing faculty or a full-time university administrator.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience living in or working with campus residential communities
Demonstrated experience collaborating with other university departments or community organizations
Demonstrated experience coordinating co-curricular experiences
Demonstrated experience formally or informally mentoring college students
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the benefits of a living/learning environment
Knowledge of university, housing, and residential education policies and procedures. All FIRs and their partners, family members, children, and guests are required to adhere to residential policies and procedures
Knowledge of general academic requirements and procedures and campus resources
Possess a strong commitment to the development of an educational residential community
Possess a strong commitment to playing a mentoring role in undergraduate education
Possess an awareness of general policies concerning issues that may arise in academic advising such as grading issues, academic integrity, and sexual harassment
Ability to interact on a positive and professional basis with students and staff in a university residential setting
Ability to serve as an excellent role model for residents regarding academic integrity and all university and Residential Education policies and procedures
Ability to make the necessary investment in time and energy in support of the aims of this program and to help create a sense of home for students
Faculty members interested in the position should carefully consider intended faculty-related activities or plans for sabbatical. Expectations regarding presence and engagement in the residence hall will preclude extended absence from the building. As such, absences other than typical academic breaks, regular vacations or short-term travel should be discussed prior to appointment.
