Good day and welcome to Sandy Run. As always, we want to take a minute to reinforce that we are able to be guests here because we have a good history of taking care of the golf course. Please make sure to replace divots, rake bunkers and repair ball marks, even the ones that are not yours. Please leave the course better than you found it.
A reminder that you should not have your earbuds in or make use of your phone during the round unless it is to call a coach for a ruling.
In terms of the rules, golf is unique. It is the only game you play that there are more rules you don't know than do know. There is zero shame to speak up to your group when you encounter a rules situation that you don't. If you can't come to agreement, please reach out to a coach and if we can't rule on it, we will get the shop involved. You always have the option to play two balls until a ruling is made. If you do not see a ball come to rest and it is in a hard to locate area, please hit a provisional. Please say, "This is a provisional. My first ball was a (blah blah blah) and this one is a (dah dah dah)." You do not have the opportunity to drop in the fairway if there is a lost ball. That rule exists in golf but we do not play it.
Gentlemen will play from the white tees and ladies will play from the red. The course is well marked. yardages are to the middle of the green but I know many of you have range finders. The only real trouble areas are that there is OB to the left and behind one. The water there is OB not a water hazard. On 8 there is a sand path to the right of the green. You do not get relief from that and must play it from that path or take an unplayable with penalty. There are yellow roped off areas on the course that are mandatory ground under repair. These areas are free relief EVEN if the ball is not found and the group agrees it entered the area. Also, mulch around trees are swing and stance free relief. No line of sight relief as there is no such thing in golf.
We are going to play double par today. We are also going to play the ball up. This means that if you are in your own fairway or fringe. You may move your ball the distance of 1 score card no closer to the hole. In formal post season, if this is played, you are required to mark the ball. For the sake of time you do not need to do so today.
So that brings us to pace of play. Do the little things. They are huge. When the last person is hitting from the tee, 3 bags should be on shoulders and feet should be moving when contact is made.
Score cards. At the end of the round, make sure both cards agree. Two signatures per card and then submit your card to your coach after it is returned to you by your scorer. If you uncomfortable signing the cards, speak up. We welcome it from both teams. If we do not proceed with integrity it affects every player in the league. There is no room for a card to be intentionally wrong. Best of Luck, the away team will have the tee. Our line up is as follows.
