The STHS golf team is open to all students who live within district boundaries grades 9-12.   Our season is the fall but play opens in late summer before school resumes.   League play concludes at the end of September with a post season that starts immediately thereafter.   

Is Golf for Me?

Although it is the case that students with no experience have participated in our program, having some experience with golf is preferred.  Typically, players need to be capable of consistently shooting under 60 for 9 holes while following USGA Rules and playing from the appropriate tees.  Players must provide all of there own equipment as well.   For all of your inquires that are not answered readily on this site, please contact Coach Vizza.

Tryouts

Due to a change in league policy in 2022, tryouts will typically be held in the second week of August of over the course of 3 days.  It is generally our plan to play 9 holes each day and total the lower of the 2 scores from the the three days.  There are some years due to the number of participants we need to make cuts.  This is not known until tryouts begin.  It may be the case that a players is not asked to return due to coaches feeling that their may be limited potential for growth.

Matches

We play in the Freedom Division of the SOL.  A typical  match is played against one opposing team over 9 holes of stroke play.  We field a max of 8 players from our team in a match.  The lowest 5 scores from each team are totaled and the lower of two totals is the winner. 

Practice

Our practice options are limited to facility availability.  We have been very fortunate to be accommodated by Sandy Run and Flourtown Country Club.
