You're new here! We're so glad that SDCCS is your school of choice. It feels like home to us, and we hope to assist you in feeling comfortable here too. We remember how overwhelming it can be to step onto a new campus and learn the norms and rhythms, and try to remember names and faces. This page is one of the ways we are here to support you and your family as you discover all our community has to offer.
We’ve all made the commitment to each other to volunteer our time and donations as part of our co-operative model when we made San Diego Cooperative Charter School our school of choice. We ask that each family volunteers 52 hours per year as part of this commitment. While this is not a requirement for enrollment, it is an expected part of our school culture and is a founding principal of our school's charter. Every hour spent volunteering directly impacts the well being of our students, staff, and special programs. And, it's not just parents who can volunteer, we welcome extended family and loved ones to become a part of our volunteer crew.
If you're feeling unsure about determining where you should spend your time volunteering on campus, we understand. It may take a little bit of time to get acclimated and learn about the diverse program offerings on campus. The best way to figure out what you will enjoy doing is to try a little bit of everything! You can also contact our volunteer coordinators, Rae'ah & Allyson. They are excellent at matching specific interests and talents with volunteer needs on campus.
To get started, we ask that you join our Campus Clean Up Events before school starts. We use these days to assist teachers with special projects, clean up the school to make it shine, and support our garden coordinator with garden projects.
This compelling video was produced by staff member Andy Yen for our Annual Gala event in 2024 and speaks to who we are as a community. It's a great introduction to some of our beloved staff members and gives you a glimpse of why so many of us are dedicated to our school.
Unlike other schools, you don’t have to pay a membership fee to “join” our Parent Staff Association, every family is automatically a member of the PSA. We hold regular public meetings where you can learn more about our activities and how you can contribute. Meet our team of dedicated volunteers who serve on the Executive Committee of our PSA.
If you are interesting in taking a leadership role on campus, we have many lead volunteer position opportunities throughout the year supporting our fundraisers and community wide events.
Two essentials to get you integrated. The Calendar includes descriptions of each event to help you plan ahead for when you would like to carve time out to be on campus.
Accountability matters in a community. This log keeps us accountable to our 52 hour commitment & helps document participation for our Charter Renewal.

Each classroom has it's own class funds that parents, caregivers and extended family and friends are welcome, but not required, to contribute to throughout the year. All funds will be used at the discretion of the classroom teacher, from school supplies to field trips.

New phoenix families definitely should consider prioritizing a Spirit Gear purchase! Students and family members on our campus are regularly seen wearing SDCCS gear, especially on Fridays, when we encourage everyone to show school spirit.
Please Note: Items are picked up in the school office.
