Springdale Public Schools: Unpacking DESE Writing Rubrics 3-5 (Coming Soon)
Based on teacher feedback, an Adapted Integrated Benchmark Reading, Writing, & Grammar Pacing Guide was developed with the support of the Principal Writing Task Force as an optional alternative for the 2026–2027 school year.
Key Highlights:
Integrated Units: Writing and grammar units have been integrated directly alongside the reading pacing to better align instruction.
Unit Reordering: Please note that some reading and writing units have been reordered to achieve this alignment, though all reading units remain in their original quarter blocks to stay fully aligned with QCFAs.
Optional Checkpoints & Prompts: Optional writing checkpoints have been added. The Writing Task Force is currently developing grade-level writing prompt samples aligned with the ATLAS assessment, which will be added directly to the guide once finalized.
School Grade-Level Consistency: All teachers in the same grade level within a school should follow the same writing pacing pathway for the school year.
This draft represents a first step in adapting resources to directly address our district's needs. We look forward to gathering further teacher feedback throughout the year to continue refining this work.
PACING OPTION B:
Benchmark Writers Workshop continues to be our core Tier 1 High-Quality Instructional Material (HQIM) for writing instruction. Additionally, our trial of Mystery Writing has been extended through the 2026–2027 school year as a supplemental instructional resource.
