Opportunities For Growth

The School District of Ashland District Library Media Specialists met to discuss opportunities for growth in our individual schools and choose 4 wedges to share focus on collectively.

The questions below are reflective of individual school and district-wide opportunities.

USE OF SPACE & TIME

Task: Provides flexible spaces that promote inquiry, creativity, collaboration, and community.

1. 1. 1. How can flexible and fixed scheduling be utilized to improve use of library resources?

      2. What are ways librarians can support additional flexible spaces such as digital fabrication laboratories, "Fab Labs"?

COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP

Task: Participates in setting the school district’s vision and strategic plan for digital learning and fosters a culture of collaboration and innovation to empower teachers and learners. 

1. 1. 1. How can librarians better coordinate library events and instruction across the district?

      2. What is the best way for librarians to make research supported recommendations to district leadership in regards to technology use in classrooms?

      3. What are ways for librarians to balance administrative and teaching roles?

CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTION & ASSESSMENT

Task: Leads in the selection, integration, organization, and sharing of digital resources and tools to support transformational teaching and learning and develops the digital curation skills of others.

1. 1. 1. How can librarians support technology literacy instruction?

PERSONALIZED PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

Task: Leads professional learning to cultivate broader understanding of the skills that comprise success in a digital age (e.g. critical thinking, information literacy, digital citizenship, technology). 

1. 1. 1. When can yearly library orientations for staff take place?

      2. Where can staff easily access library resources?

      3. How should librarians promote models of inquiry and assessment? Indigenized inquiry?

ROBUST INFRASTRUCTURE

Task: Provides and advocates for equitable access to collection tools using digital resources, programming, and services in support of the school district’s strategic vision.

1. 1. 1. How can our digital resources better meet the needs of teachers and students?

BUDGET & RESOURCES

Task: Leverages an understanding of school and community needs to identify and invest in digital resources such as books and eBooks to support student learning.

1. 1. 1. How can we spend more strategically for resources that are shared across the district?

      2. How can we make sure spending is distributed to more local vendors?

      3. How can our spending reflect the diversity of our school community?
         
         

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Task: Participates in setting the school district’s vision and strategic plan for digital learning and fosters a culture of collaboration and innovation to empower teachers and learners.

1. 1. 1. What could a reciprocal relationship with the Vaughn Public Library look like?

      2. How can we improve our current community partnerships and make it easier to grow new partnerships?

      3. Where can libraries partner with tribal entities to ensure just representation of our native community?

DATA & PRIVACY

Task: Teaches and promotes student data and privacy through his or her instruction and role as an educational leader.

1. 1. 1. How can we implement self-checkout to reduce check out wait times and assign age appropriate tasks AND simultaneously protect student privacy?

      2. What additional tools can support librarians in teaching about digital citizenship, data & privacy?

      3. Where can librarian house collected data and artifacts from programming?
