Boozhoo and welcome to the library world!
The School District of Ashland library media specialists, with guidance and collaboration from DPI, SDA colleagues and area librarians developed a plan for the district library program. This plan exists to meet the current needs of the students, staff and the community and is designed to adapt to the changes that occur with growth.
The School District of Ashland Library program promotes literacy and research, supports curriculum, and encourages collaboration with teachers to ensure that all students and staff are effective and ethical users of ideas and information; students are empowered to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and life-long learners.
The School District of Ashland serves a diverse community that ranges from Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) nations such as the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe, who have lived in the Chequamegon Bay Area since time immemorial, the descendents of fur traders, the great grandchildren of Czech and Scandinavian immigrants, to higher education students who make their homes here while in their pursuit of learning.
Our district libraries work to provide authentic representation for all students and celebrate their intersecting identities of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, sex, gender status, and physical, mental, emotional, or learning ability...through library collections and programming.
As per Wisconsin Administrative Code PI 8.01(2)(h), districts are required to provide long-range library plans. This plan will be published and viewable through WISELearn Resources under the subject area Library and Information Science.
We have utilized the Future Ready Librarians Framework to structure our strategic plan.
The framework is made up of 9 wedges that together create a robust Learner Centered library.
