Roomscape Intro - Interior Space using Linear Perspective

May 29-June 3. Unit 5: Roomscape Creative Finale (Final Project)

For your final project, you will use the skills and knowledge you have developed in art. Follow these steps to success...

  1. Watch the Roomscapes Presentation Video. (May 29)
  2. Reflect and revise your planning work (completed previously - see previous Unit 5 directions). (May 29)
  3. Seek advice with a post to the Roomscape Feedback document (not required for final project) (June 1)
  4. Complete a wonderful, original work of art using your best craftsmanship and creativity. (June 3)

Your final work is due Wednesday, June 3rd

5. Post a photo of your final project in Artsonia, (8th Grade Roomscapes folder) and add an artist statement to describe your process and artwork using visual art vocabulary and concepts learned during the unit.

As always, you are being evaluated on your planning, creating, reflecting, revising, presenting and responding to art.

May 28 - Unit 5: Illusion of Depth - Roomscape.

Continue practicing linear perspective drawing; looking at and drawing interior spaces in your home. Final project presentation will be posted on May 29 ~ due on or before June 3rd.


Bedroom Perspective

May 26/27 - Roomscape - create interior space using linear perspective.

  1. View the Roomscapes presentation
  2. Within the Roomscapes presentation, there are tutorial videos. View these and use them as a resource to guide your work.
  3. Select one or two point perspective technique, and create a sketch that depicts the room in which you are spending the most time during remote learning. This is a sketch: a lightly drawn pencil line drawing that represents the basic objects
  4. Share the sketch for feedback in the Roomscape feedback document.

This is a "catch up" day. As of 5pm on Sunday, May 17, all grading and feedback was completed and posted. Today you should:

1) Check Artsonia for feedback. Reflect and revise work as suggested.

2) Check Power School grade program for incomplete and/or missing work. Finish incomplete work. Choose to complete missing assignments, starting with "Respond to Art: Mood"

3) 'Extend' your learning by completing more artwork. Create additional works of art based upon previous assignments, or your own experiences.


May 15 - Respond to Art: Mood

During our class meeting on May 14, we discussed 'mood' in artwork. Those who joined us have completed this assignment. If you were unable to join us during the class meeting, complete the following tasks:

May 13 - Write an Artist Statement for Keepsake Artwork

1) Post a photo of your completed work to Artsonia.com - add it to the "8th Grade Drawings" folder.

2) Write an artist statement to describe your artwork and your process.

May 7 - Plan and begin creating abstract art from your photo source

2) Use the blind contour technique, or a technique of your own choosing to create an abstracted work of art from your Unit 4 photo source

3) Post a photo of your artwork in the Unit 4 feedback document. Note: this does not have to be a completed work of art. Post what you completed today to receive feedback from Mr Mac and your classmates.

May 12 - Use Feedback: Reflect and Revise your artwork

1) Review feedback provided in the Unit 4 feedback document.

2) Reflect - think about how you can improve your work

3) Revise - continue working on your Photo Source Drawing - meet criteria:

  • Create artwork from a photo source. Your artwork can be realistic or abstracted to whatever extend you choose.
  • Eliminate unproductive white space. This means you are coloring or shading (solid fill, pattern or additional imagery) in the negative space (background).
  • Practice Quality Craftsmanship . Take time and put forth effort to produce your best work.

May 11 - Share artwork for feedback

Receive feedback for work in progress; post a photo of your artwork in the Unit 4 feedback document.

April 28-29 - Color your Graffiti Design - Post to Artsonia

When coloring, be sure to maintain Unity. You may use as many colors and/or patterns as you like, but you should color every letter similarly. When coloring, give attention to negative space, and practice quality craftsmanship.

  1. Take another look at the Graffiti Design presentation - paying close attention to the way the artists colored their designs.
  2. Experiment with different color combinations on a seperate piece of paper. Choose the one you like best
  3. Consider adding patterns, symbols, imagery and/or interesting and dynamic shapes to positive and negative space.
  4. When you are finished, post a photo of your final design to Artsonia.com - 8th Grade Graffiti Art folder.

April 27 - Reflect and Revise Graffiti Design Planning

Create an updated/revised/improved version of your design that you will color

  1. Reflect on criteria for graffiti design and feedback received from classmates and Mr Mac
  2. Revise artwork - focus on shapes, balance and unity - create a new version of your design that you will color
  • shapes: should be stretched, expanded, sharing edges and/or overlapping. Lettering should be dynamic: varying in thickness, including elements that are unique (not your typical block or bubble lettering)
  • balance: the design should feel evenly weighted side-to-side
  • Unity: the lettering and additional aspects of your design should share similar features so all letters appear to "go together"


April 24 - Graffiti Sketches

  1. Finish graffiti sketch assignment and upload photo to 'Graffiti Sketches Posts and Feedback'
  2. Comment on artwork posted by your classmates
    • Provide two comments for the person who posted before you, and two comments for the person who posts after you:
      • for each classmate, provide one compliment; and one suggestion to improve their work
      • add additional comments to other students as desired
      • go to the Graffiti Sketches Posts and Feedback to complete this assignment
  3. Check your Graffiti Sketches post for comments and feedback provided for you.

April 23/24 Graffiti Design planning

  1. Review Graffiti Design Criteria
  2. Watch the graffiti design planning tutorial video
  3. Sketch variations of your name, meeting criteria of project using a contemporary graffiti style
  4. Upload a photo of your planning work to the Graffiti Sketches Posts and Feedback


April 22 - Unit 3 - Graffiti Design

2) Make a copy of the Graffiti Notes, and use slides 7-24 to complete the notes

4) Study the graffiti designs in the presentation ~ and search/research graffiti imagery online ~ to prepare for Thursday

April 20 - Who is the Artist?

  • Try to identify the artist before you get to slide #6.
  • Look at the work of art on Slide 8 - it's entitled "Guernica"
  • Go to classroom.google and tell us what you think Guernica is about...

2) Go to your classroom.google page:

  • Give your opinion about the artwork "Guernica".
  • Comment on your classmate's opinions


April 16 - What Do Artist Do?

Over the past week, we created an Imaginary Friend, and did so using the artistic process every artist applies when artmaking. One can identify six steps in the artistic process...

Your task:

  1. review the steps you completed during the Imaginary Friend unit
  2. create a google doc entitled What Do Artists Do?
    • In this document, list the six steps of the artistic process
  3. view What Do Artists Do? presentation
    • click the screen to reveal one step of the artistic process
    • repeat until you see the six steps of the artistic process
  4. Compare this list with the list you made, correct your list if necessary
  5. Brainstorm and record specific tasks that an artist might use during each step. Here is a hand-written example of this assignment
  6. Share your completed google doc with Mr Mac for credit
    • set 'share setting' to allow comments

April 15 - Imaginary Friend Artist Statement


Write an artist statement about your 'Imaginary Friend' artwork. Include:

  • The materials and techniques you used to create the artwork, written using complete sentences and visual art vocabulary (name the elements, principles, materials and techniques)
  • The characteristics or story of your Imaginary Friend (describe the ideas or concepts in your artwork)
  • Edits (your posted artist statement should be the final version after review and edits are complete)

April 10 - Imaginary Friend - Reflect; Refine, Improve and Develop Artwork into a finished original work of art


Mr Mac will be adding feedback to the Imaginary Friend Slides presentation

Today you should:

1) Confirm that you have made two comments for the person who posted before you, and two comments for the person who posted after you.

~ one comment about what you like (for acknowledging hard work)

~ one comment about what you would like to see (for improvement)

~ two comments on two slides = 4 comments total (minimum)

2) Begin reflecting upon the feedback that you have been given, and developing ideas about how you can improve your work. Sketching tutorial

**Suggestions to improve artwork (look for individual suggestions on your slide in the Imaginary Friend Slides presentation:

  • Consider the Elements of Art such as shape (flat, 2D) , form (value/shading/3D illusion), and color
  • Consider textures
  • Develop a story for your Imaginary Friend - depict action and a scene from that story, or create a cartoon
  • Draw your imaginary friend again, working to improve quality craftsmanship
  • Fill the white space in your artwork - consider negative space - what will be added and visible in the area that is not your Imaginary Friend
  • What is your imaginary friend holding? wearing?
  • Who is with your imaginary friend?

**Suggestions to improve artwork are not limitations ~ be CREATIVE!

April 9 - Imaginary Friend - Reflect, Respond

1) post artwork and description of your Imaginary Friend (if not yet done)

2) make sure you have provided feedback to your classmates' posts in the Imaginary Friends google.slides presentation:

Required: comment on the person who posted right before you; and the person who posted right after you. (1 comment for each sentence starter = 2 comments per post; w comments on 2 classmates' posts = 4 comments total)

Optional: comment on any classmate's post - 2 comments per slide, no limit

**Remember to highlight sentence starter when commenting. highlight text > right click > comment - add your feedback to comment box

April 8 - Imaginary Friend - Present; Reflect; Respond

April 7 - Imaginary Friend - Plan and Create

Many students have completed their "Imaginary Friend" sketch and description. You may extend your skills and creativity today by adding to either:

1) Draw a close-up version of your Imaginary Friend, or a different pose or view of your Imaginary Friend's whole body. Color your work.

2) Add to the description - check that the description matches the image.

On Wednesday, you will upload photo(s) and the description of your Imaginary Friend to a Google slide that Mr Mac will share with you later. You will also give and receive feedback to/from classmates.

Unit 2 - Imaginary Friend

Introducing the talented and amazing JooYoung Choi, who shares her fictional realm "The Cosmic Womb" and beckons us to create our own IMAGINARY FRIEND.

Directions:

    • WRITE about YOUR IMAGINARY FRIEND - create your description in a google doc and share it with Mr Mac
    • CREATE YOUR IMAGINARY FRIEND - draw, paint, sculpt, create your own imaginary friend. Take a photo of that work and post to Artsonia.com
    • BOTH - WRITE about and CREATE YOUR IMAGINARY FRIEND



Hi Everyone. Welcome to day one of E-Learning!

Unit 1 - Coloring

This will be a "one-day" unit. We will call it "Unit 1". This is our warm up to elearning. It will give you practice using the technology and will help us identify any problems.

Final work is due Thursday 4/2 at 3pm.

You will be graded on the following standards:

  • Planning
  • Creating
  • Reflecting/Revising
  • Presenting
  • Responding
  • Task Completion

Unit 1 - Coloring - Directions:

1) Planning - Go to https://www.justcolor.net/ You will meet the planning standard by selecting an image

2) Creating - If you don't have a printer, read * below. If you do have a printer, select image and print. Color your selection** Focus on quality craftsmanship

3) Reflect/Revise - when you finish coloring, look at what you have done. Ask yourself what can be improved, or what needs to be changed. If you would like feedback from Mr Mac, post a photo of your work to Artsonia in "Mid-Unit Feedback" folder

4) Presenting - Complete artwork. Meet the deadline. Post a photo of your work to Artsonia in "Projects (Completed Work)" folder - Due Thurs, April 2 at 3pm

5) Responding - Write an artist statement telling us about the process and your work, including what you did to achieve quality craftsmanship


*if you are unable to print documents at home, place paper on top of screen and use a pencil to lightly trace the image.

**if you don't have color pencils, markers or crayons at home, use a pencil or pen

Finally, if tracing a design doesn't seem logical to you, you may create your own design. The learning is focused on shape and quality craftsmanship. Strive to develop something that demonstrates understanding of those concepts.
