Hello Middleton Families,
My name is Kristin Solovy, and I am the new EL (English Language) teacher at Middleton! Before finding Middleton, I spent the past 6 years working in public, charter, and private schools in Chicago. I earned my Masters in World Language Education (Spanish) with endorsements in English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education, from DePaul University, and my Bachelors Degree in Theatre Arts (Stage Management) with minors in Theatre Dance and Hispanic Studies, from Illinois Wesleyan University. (TGOE!)
While I call Chicago home now, I am originally from St. Louis, MO. (Yes, this does mean that I'm a Cardinals and Blues fan!!) I learned Spanish in middle school and high school, alongside my grandparents who were also taking classes. They showed me the joy that could come from learning another language, the connections it creates, and the doors it could open. I love talking about St. Louis, and it will always have the best frozen custard, the best stateside Italian food, and the best zoo!
I now live in Wrigleyville in Chicago with my husband and our two cats. We just got married in March of 2026, and love traveling both the world and the extensive list of delicious restaurants in Chicago.
During my summers, you can find me at Apachi Northside- the best place under the sun!!
My goal as a teacher at Middleton is to accompany students in finding the joy that is being multilingual, and that making mistakes is an important part of learning.
In a world that is full of AI and translators and shortcuts, I still firmly believe in the importance of language learning. It is our connections that create who we are. Nelson Mandela said it best when he said, "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart."
Warmly,
Mrs. Solovy / Profe / Ms. S / Maestra
