October

October 19th -23rd in Grade 3/4

Math – we demonstrated our knowledge of place value with base ten blocks and writing numbers in both standard and expanded form. We are now moving into adding with partial sums

Language – This week we used a fortune teller to help us with our creative writing! It gave us the plot, setting and character for each story and we used our imagination for the rest. Some were scary and some were silly and they all demonstrated our ability to add adjectives into our writing to make them more descriptive.

Science – As we finish up our phases of matter unit we did two experiments. We made Oobleck to discover if an object could be both a solid and a liquid and we dissolved sugar and are waiting to see if it will become a solid again over a period of a week. Make sure to ask your child to find out the results!

Art – we started to talk about the elements of design and focused on – Line. We used our lines to make haunted houses and pumpkins. We used pastels and water colour to add the element of colour into our work and help bring it to life.

This week in Grade 3/4

Math – We moved from adding to subtracting! By the end of the week we played a math game where we had to add and subtract numbers up to 1000 - a few students even tried numbers up to 10,000!

Art - we shocked Frankenstein and used the element of Line to bring him to life

Science - we finished off our Phases of Matter experiments looking at how we can trap gas. We used a solid and a liquid to help us make the gas.

Language Arts - we continued to look at the elements of a story and are working on creating our own characters, setting and plots.

Field Trip - we went to Laughing Crow Organics this past week. From learning about seeds, to picking our own pumpkins it was an awesome morning. We learned that each sunflower has about 1000 seeds which means they could cover all of Pemberton if they planned all the seeds - pretty neat!

* We also used Kahoot this week to review our understanding in both science and language arts!
