November Class Updates

This week in Grade 3/4 - Nov 16-19th

Math – we continued to look at graphing and made our own bar and line graphs. Students worked hard at making sure their graphs had a title on both y and x axis and on the top of their graph. They are focused on picking an appropriate scale to make sure the graph would fit on the page. We also had Ms. Shore a member of District’s 48 ILT team come in and teach a math lesson on multiplication. We learned how to play multiplication squares and have started to refresh how to solve multiplication questions up to 10 x 10. We will continue to use these strategies throughout the year.

Language Arts – we each created a Daily 5 goal for Term 2 and are working towards this goal both individually and within our Daily 5 groups. We also started working on the Young Water Speaks writing contest. This coming Monday we will have a guest from Young Water Speaks names Erin join our class on zoom to inspire us to write about our favourite body of water – ask your child to learn more!

Science/ Socials – we are underway in our project called “How to reduce our carbon footprint”. This week the focus was on researching what Climate Change, Carbon Footprint and Global Warming actually mean. We hear these words a lot but we used trusted sites like NASA Kids and National Geographic kids to learn more! Make sure to check in with your child to find out what they read and learned this week!

Reading – we finished The One and Only Ivan this week. We will move into a new read aloud next week.

Each group is almost half way to our goal before our next class party - hopefully by the end of next week they are 3/4 of the way!!!
