Goal Standard: Students will understand differences between physical and chemical changes.
Learning Experience:
Mini Lesson (must-do)
Ed Puzzle- Bill Nye (must-do)
Physical and Chemical Properties and Changes Practice (must-do)
Determining Importance In Balancing Chemical Equations (must-do)
Chemical and Physical Changes Web Quest (should-do)
Gizmo- Balancing Chemical Equations (should-do)
Physical and Chemical Changes in Baking Lab (should-do)
Escape Room- Physical and Chemical Changes (aspire to-do)
Design Your Own Lab- Law of Conservation (aspire to-do)
Evidence:
Use the Law of Conservation to balance chemical equations
Identify substances based on the physical and chemical properties
This was a long video and therefore not really possible to remember all of it. However, like anything you do there are some important learnings that you will want to remember.
Assignment: 1) Create a google doc where you can record the 5 most important facts you learned that you want to be sure to remember. 2) In addition, provide a short explanation as to why you think the information you recorded was most important.
Use the following learning experience to practice identifying physical and chemical changes. It is HIGHLY recommended that you have watched either the mini lesson video or engaged in an in class mini lesson on this topic before attempting this assignment.
Assignment:
1) Watch the short simulation animation and then use the examples provided to practice balancing chemical equations. REMEMBER to do the, you will need to make sure the number of reactants are equal to the number of products.
2) Practice and record at least 5 of the chemical equations you were able to balance AFTER balancing them
3) Write a quick explanation as to what is most important to remember/do when balancing chemical equations.
