****ADD A FOLDER TO YOUR PORTFOLIO TITLED "MOON PHASES & ECLIPSES." AND SAVE ALL WORK IN YOUR FOLDER****
Goal Standard: Students will understand that the relative positions and motions of Earth Moon and Sun can be used to explain observable effects such as seasons, eclipses, and moon phases
How do the positions of the earth, moon, and sun cause moon phases?
Why don't eclipses happen monthly?
Learning Experience:
Inferring Practice: What Do You Think? (must-do) ** Choose either the "Inferring Practice" or "Investigate" assignment**

Evidence:
Moon Phases Quiz to determine how well you understand the causes and types of moon phases and eclipses
This activity acts as a way to brainstorm and get you thinking about moon phases! This is a way to capture your initial thoughts so you can see how your thinking has changed by the end of this lesson.
Use what you know about inferring (schema + evidence = inference) to FIX the moon phase misconceptions with your best inference (which is more informed than a guess). Misconceptions are ideas that several people believe that aren't actually true. This should be a way to introduce you to ideas surrounding moon phases.
**HINT: Read the misconception, use it to gather information about moon phases (evidence), and infer an alternative "reality"
Here are some sentence starters to help with your "Inferred Realities":
How to start
“At first I am thinking…”
“Using my schema (background knowledge and experience)…”
“This make me think of…”
“I’m not sure, but I think…”
Watch the mini-lesson from either Schmidt or Fryska. Take a picture of your notes and save it to your Moon Phases and Eclipses Folder.
REMINDER: Note templates can be found on the ADDITIONAL RESOURCES page.
