Tuesday/Thursday - Health
Welcome to Health! You will be learning about your total health and how this applies to you. After taking this course you should be able to set goals to develop a healthy life style through your diet and exercise! You will learn how to make informative decisions about your overall health, helping you to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle!
The following 8 Standards will be covered in your health class:
* Core Concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention
*Analyzing Influences of family, peers, culture, media, technology and other factors on health behavior
*Accessing Information - access valid information and products and services to enhance health
*Interpersonal Communication – using interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks
*Decision Making – demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health
*Goal Setting – use goal-setting skills to enhance health
*Practice Healthy Behavior – practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks
*Advocacy – advocate for personal, family and community health
You will be responsible for tests, quizzes, daily assignments, and journal entries. You will have various projects throughout the school year such as a Newsletter/Brochure, a teen health cookbook, a public broadcasting announcement and teaching the younger kids about health education. Let us know other interests you may have regarding your overall health and we’ll see what else we can study and learn!
Basic Participation Grading Rubric for Health 6th-8th:
4 and below - Minimal Evidence of Understanding: I am showing minimal effort. I am not working to potential. My absences are affecting my progress. I need regular re-direction.
5/6 - Approaching Standard: I am beginning to get it! I am working towards my potential, making effort! I often need re-direction.
7/8 - At Standard: I got it! I am showing great potential and am showing great effort! I rarely need re-direction.
9/10 - Above Standard: I got it! I consistently reach my potential! I can move forward on my own!
Responsibility Marks: We expect that students take responsibility for their actions/behaviors and are respectful to staff and each other
4 and below - Student rarely meets the expectations/regularly needs redirection
5/6 - Student occasionally meets the expectations/often needs redirection
7/8 - Student usually meets the expectations/rarely needs direction
9/10 - Student usually meets all expectations/no redirection
