Let your students explore and experiment on the banks of Banklick Creek by visiting our interactive outdoor educational facility. Each student will follow the Journey of a Drop of Water as they tour SD1’s Public Service Park (PSP). Fall field trips typically occur through October, while spring field trips typically occur April-May.
Equipped with a field notebook, your students will complete 10 missions as they follow the Journey of a Drop of Water. The missions (features) include: Vegetated Roof, Aquatic Bugs, Aquarium/Interactive Art Feature‐Water: Source of Life, Interactive Art Feature‐Water: Sculptor of Land/Water: Gift of Earth, Watershed World, Cistern/Runoff Race/Porous Concrete, Wetland Classroom, Plastic Waters, Educational Creek Overlook, and Native American History Creek Walk
Please note: You must complete the five‐lesson environmental unit before your scheduled field trip date.

Is there an AED on site? If yes, where is in located?
Yes, SD1 has three AEDs at the Main Office. One is located in the first-floor breakroom adjacent to the boardroom, one is in the third-floor gym, and one is in the main barn.
Do you have an emergency response team?
SD1 has an onsite safety coordinator and SD1 staff leading the tour are Red Cross CPR certified.
What is the process to retrieve the AED and alert the emergency response team at the venue?
The tour leads will have walkie talkies and can notify SD1 staff if assistance or an AED is needed. Our process is to call 911, alert the SD1 safety coordinator and administer aid until first responders arrive.

Field Trip Resources:
Q: What is the Public Service Park (PSP)? A: PSP is an outdoor, interactive, environmental learning center that brings education, wonder and amazement to the banks of Banklick Creek.
Q: What days are available for trips? A: Teachers will be contacted at the beginning of the school year with available dates. Availability varies during the months of October, April and May.
Q: How long is the field trip? A: Field trips typically begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. Students are required to bring a packed lunch.
Q: How many students can I bring? A: School tours are limited to 120 students per field trip date. If you have more than 120 students, you must schedule two days.
Q: Transportation? A: Your school must provide transportation to and from SD1.
Q: Are chaperones required? A: Yes! You must arrange for at least one TRAINED chaperone for every ten children.
Q: Trained? What does that mean? A: Every teacher and chaperone will be required to attend a 60‐minute training session held at the park prior to attending the field trip. Multiple spring/fall chaperone training dates are offered each year.
Q: What should I do to prepare? A: You must teach the environmental unit prior to your school’s scheduled field trip date and have your students take the PSP field trip pretest.

This electronic release form is signed by parents/guardians prior to the field trip. This release gives SD1 permission to use photos and videos taken during the field trip for educational purposes.

This electronic form is to be used to submit your students' average test score. If your students complete the electronic version of the test, you do not need to submit this form.

Multiple chaperone training sessions are offered throughout the fall and spring field trip season, both during the day and in the evening to meet unique schedules. Please use this doc and included links as a resource for upcoming training dates/times and to register volunteers for their desired training. Feel free to download and share this doc with chaperones if you would prefer for them to self-register for their desired training.
