Professional Development

One of the most important aspects of the Compassion Framework development on school grounds has been the approach to professional development. As a leader of this initiative one should always ask the question "What does our staff need in order to provide the best experiences/education/practice for our learners?"

Some of the milestone elements of Professional Development and Learning Series include:

Ongoing conversations;
Careful Planning
Developing project or experience framework Together with facilitators/teachers, directors and staff involved;
Weekly and monthly check-ins followed by revisions and calibration
MOST IMPORTANT: staff training on systems thinking, habits and implementation of simulations;
Activity practice with facilitators (teachers) before classroom/project implementation;
Communicating with parents, admin and the community;
Providing time for staff to plan together and share weekly experiences
Recruiting community experts and seeking out authentic experiences (simulations, guest speakers, opportunities to apply learning outside of classroom walls)
