Of course Git is also available for the Mac OSX operating system.
To install Git on OSX we first have to download a file that can be found on the following page:
After the download is complete you can open the “dmg” file. As usual it will mount a new directory on the desktop and open it.
Now double click on the “pkg” file. It will either run the installer or give you the following error dialog:
If you see this dialog, you have to go to the “System Preferences”.
Click on “Security & Privacy” and click the “Open Anyway” button.
You will now be presented with the actual installer:
Click the “Continue” button to continue.
We would like to install everything to the standard location, so just click the “Install” button.
You are now prompted to enter your password. Please enter your password and click the “Install Software” button.
If the installation was successful you will see the screen above. Please click the “Close” button to close the installer.
