Some things take super human efforts to plan, prepare, and execute, and buffet parties are no exception. For almost the past month, the Santa Clara High School Culinary 2 class has been planning and preparing for their final project, a themed buffet party fit for at least 50 guests, some of which are faculty members from Santa Clara High School. In order to create such an event, the students needed to facilitate scheduling, as well as other tasks such as choosing a theme, and making all designs and foods correlate to the theme. Their chosen theme was “Seniors Endgame”, a reference to the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe film recently released. After the theme was established, different groups in the classroom were delegated to complete specific tasks, such as creating party favors, decorations, and even designing a specific section on the class’s website. With seven different recipes chosen, the class could begin preparing for the main event. Two days were taken to prepare the six main foods to be served. With the Avengers theme in mind, the foods included Hulk’s Waffles, Captain America’s French Toast, Infinity Eggs, Thor’s Omelet Hammers, Thanos’s Bombs, and Spidey Shots. The Hulk Waffles were mini green waffles garnished with berries and powdered sugar. Captain America’s french toast was a classic french-toast complete with a crunchy flaky exterior coupled with a warm, moist interior. The Infinity Eggs were colored deviled eggs to match the colors of the infinity stones. Thor’s Omelet Hammers were mini Japanese style omelets garnished with pretzel sticks. Thanos’s Bombs were turkey and swiss cheese sliders topped with a caramelized onion. Spidey Shots were mini berry and oat smoothies chilled in mini glasses. The event itself was very successful. Many faculty members and students said they enjoyed the buffet and many of the recipes. Senior Kurt Quintero said “The buffet was really good. Surprisingly it was better than the Grinch one. I feel that everyone brought their A game to this one”. Although the fire alarm went off during the beginning portion of the event, students and staff were able to return to the food quickly, and enjoy the rest of the buffet.
