The realization of the work of art has been attributed to the young Andrea Della Robbia and it would have been made following a drawing by the more skilled uncle Luca.
The Virgin is drawn as a very young woman who, hinting at a slight movement with her right foot, holds a Baby Jesus tightly on her left forearm, almost in a lying position. The right hand holds the child's leg tenderly in harmony with the left hand which has got widely spread fingers.
The Madonna is made up of two pieces assembled along the return of the mantle, it is completely white but for the light blue color in her iris, mouth and eyelashes.
Object of great worship over the centuries, the Madonna has recently been renovated, making more evident the right to call her "Madonna of the snow" and "Madonna of the milk", names used to refer to her in the past among the Chiana valley believers.
