A key feature of House Bill 3 of the 2019 Texas Legislative Session requires all kindergarten through third-grade teachers and elementary principals to complete the Texas Reading Academies before the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
SCUC ISD has chosen the Reading Academies blended model, self-paced, asynchronous professional learning opportunity designed to equip teachers and administrators with evidence-based content and methods that best support the science of teaching reading (STR). The goal is for participants to apply knowledge of the STR across teaching contexts to improve reading outcomes for all learners.

House Bill 3 requires all current Kinder-3rd grade teachers to complete the TEA Reading Academies by the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
New teachers must also complete the TEA Reading Academies during their first year of employment as a Kinder-3rd grade teacher.
Instructional Coaches, Interventionsts, Special Education teachers, Specials teachers, and Dyslexia teachers must also complete the TEA Reading Academies by 2022-2023.
Administrators (principals and assistant principals) must also complete the TEA Reading Academies.
Note: If a 4th-12th grade teacher transfers/reassigned to a Kinder-3rd grade teaching position, they must also complete the TEA Reading Academies by the end of their 1st year teaching in the grade level.
The Reading Academies modules are self-paced and participants have 11 months to complete the modules.
The Reading Academies Pacing & Learning Days provides a timeline for completing the modules.
Teachers are provided with 4 Reading Academies Learning Days. On Reading Academies Learning Days, participants may request a substitute using “Staff Development” as the reason. Learning Days must be used for Reading Academies collaboration and completion of the modules. See the Reading Academies Pacing & Learning Days for your campus's scheduled day.
Kinder-3rd grade teachers who have registered for the Reading Academies will receive notification from the Literacy Department. Upon receiving notification, teachers may register for the academies in Canvas (LMS). Please contact our PreK-4th Grade Literacy Coordinator, Amanda Kiehle (Ext. 6016) if you have any questions.
This track is for general education, special education, instructional coaches, interventionists, dyslexia teachers and support teachers.
