The SCUC ISD Math Academies are comprehensive trainings that focus on early numeracy development is based on the foundation of Add+VantageMR® (AVMR). Add+VantageMR® (AVMR) supports elementary educators, special education instructors, math interventionists, and math coaches in diagnosing and advancing student understanding and numeracy development. The assessment, data collection, and teaching tools are designed to accelerate the ability of educators to recognize students' current levels of numeracy understanding to make data-driven instructional decisions.

AVMR 1
Foundational learning of whole number topics such as number words and numerals, structuring numbers, addition and subtraction, and topics that affect the development of future mathematical understanding. The topics and domains covered often appear later on as holes in understanding for older struggling students. Add+VantageMR® (AVMR) Course 1 is a four-day course that includes dynamic, diagnostic, individual assessments in number words and numerals, structuring numbers, and addition and subtraction strategies. The assessment, data collecting, and teaching tools accelerate the educator's ability to recognize the students' current levels of numeracy understanding to make data-driven instructional decisions. AVMR is beneficial for anyone working or supervising others in the area of mathematics. It is most appropriate for pre-kindergarten through elementary, as well as for middle school educators who work with students that have fallen at least two years behind standards. AVMR Course 1 is a prerequisite to AVMR Course 2.
Prerequisite: Number Training
AVMR 2
Expand and deepen knowledge and understanding of the mathematical development for all students by implementing diagnostic assessments for multiplication and division and place value understanding. Add+VantageMR® (AVMR) Course 2 is facilitated weekly in eight 2 hour synchronous afterschool sessions with asynchronous work in-between sessions. . Course topics include that includes dynamic, diagnostic, individual assessments in place value, multi-digit addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division strategies. The assessment, organizational, and teaching tools accelerate the educator's ability to recognize the students' current levels of numeracy understanding to make data-driven instructional decisions. AVMR Course 2 is most appropriate for kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms and special education teachers, as well as interventionists who work with children kindergarten through middle school.
Prerequisite: Number Training & AVMR 1
AVMR Fractions
Explore how students develop concepts and strategies with fractions to support algebraic reasoning and applying operations. This course compliments current Math Recovery® course offerings in early number and whole number arithmetic. Developing Fractions Knowledge, by Amy Hackenberg, Anderson Norton, & Robert Wright, serves as the course text and provides a detailed and comprehensive guide to classroom and intervention teaching of fractions. The teaching approach relies heavily on observing and documenting students' mathematical activity and thinking. Instructional sequences take into account detailed information about students' current levels of knowledge, as well as how students reorganize their ways of working with whole numbers in order to meaningfully work with fractions. AVMR Fraction Course is facilitated weekly in eight 2 hour synchronous afterschool sessions with asynchronous work in-between sessions.
Prerequisite: Number - Developing Number Knowledge
Math Recovery® Specialist: Part 1 focuses on the teaching and learning of number concepts in the primary grades. As a part of the course, participants engage in working 1:1 and in small groups with students as well as coaching and collegial engagement. The Math Recovery® Specialist is well prepared for providing targeted intervention with students and is a valuable resource for supporting school- or district-wide mathematics initiatives. Course participants receive assessment and teaching materials to support the implementation of Math Recovery ® intervention.
Prerequisites Training: NUMBER Training and AVMR1
Kinder-5th grade teachers who teach mathematics, instructional coaches, interventionists, Special Education Teachers and administrators.
