About Content Filtering
All accounts and devices at Streetsboro City Schools are subject to content filtering both on and off campus, as required by various federal laws, including CIPA - Children’s Internet Protection Act, COPPA - Children’s Online Privacy & Protection Act, and FERPA - Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
As such, here are some examples of topics and categories we block:
Other Adult Content
Anonymous Proxies & VPNs
Chat / Messaging outside of Google
Hate Speech / Hate
Harm to Self and Others
Non Safe-Search Search Engines
Some Health Topics
Policies may differ between staff and students. For example, some staff may chose to use content from a streaming media provider for instruction.
Furthermore, we enable by default Google's Safe Search Mode, YouTube Restricted Mode, and enable keyword scanning.
No policy, filtering, or content blocking system is perfect. We take direct measures to keep our staff and students safe while engaged with a student or staff account. We expect our students and staff to take an active participatory role in this endeavor, and report unsafe or harmful material to a principal or school counselor.
