How to Enroll in the RCAAS

Entrance Criteria to RCAAS

In an effort to implement the "Talent Development Framework," enrollment will be open to students who are identified as gifted AND students who demonstrate high potential by scoring close to the gifted score. We believe giftedness is developmental, so we focus on nurturing students' potential and ability!


  1. Students must be entering grades 3-6

  2. Enrollment will be open to students who are identified as Gifted AND "Emerging" (Those who demonstrate high potential by scoring close to the gifted evaluation score). Click here to complete the online RCAAS Application and Gifted Referral Form.

Open Enrollment students who are identified as gifted or emerging will be considered for admission based on availability once district resident gifted students have already been placed. 3. Evaluation: The State of Ohio requires a two-part gifted identification process to determine whether a child meets the gifted criteria.

  • Performance Rubric (A rubric is a scoring tool that explicitly represents the performance expectations through auditions and portfolio review)

  • Behavior Checklist (A checklist that relates to observable and measurable artistic characteristics which are recorded by learning professionals)

Students will be evaluated in the following areas for enrollment in the RCAAS:

Superior Cognitive Ability

Specific Academic Area: Math

Specific Academic Area: Reading

Specific Academic Area: Science

Specific Academic Area: Social Studies

Creative Thinking Ability

Visual and Performing Arts Area: Visual Art

Visual and Performing Arts Area: Music

Visual and Performing Arts Area: Drama

Visual and Performing Arts Area: Dance* (once ODE approves a K-8 checklist for identification)

*Admitted as Emerging only: The Ohio Department of Education has not yet approved a checklist for the gifted identification of K-8 students in the area of Dance. For this reason, students will be admitted solely on an "emerging" basis using the ODE Rubric alone until a checklist is approved for use.
