LUNCH BUNCHES and SMALL GROUPS with MRS. OSTERLING
We have Lunch Bunch Groups with Chris Osterling! Mrs. O, as we affectionately call her, is a behavior specialist consulting with our district. She spends every Wednesday with us at RCAAS. She works in conjunction with our school counselors to support their work with our kiddos as well. We will also be starting some small groups with Mrs. O. in a few weeks on more meaty topics with some of our friends.
Students will be provided with a Google form to indicate their interest in each Lunch Bunch topic , but families may also email teachers or Mrs. O. directly to urge their child's participation as well. We tried out a first meeting September 22 about relaxing our brains and it was a huge hit with our 5th graders! Here are the topics we are planning to start with, which will be repeated as needed so every child who wants to participate can do so.
I am really good at relaxing my brain!
I have the best way to fall asleep!
I know the best way to help someone feel comfortable!
I have an excellent method to get my point across!
I am a pro at managing annoying people!
What can I do when I don’t know what to do?
WHOLE CLASS LESSONS, SMALL GROUPS, and INDIVIDUAL SUPPORTS with SCHOOL COUNSELORS
Ms. Sharon Willis is returning to us this year and will stick with her friends from last year by shifting to working with 3rd and 5th grades. She will typically be at RCAAS on Tuesday and Friday mornings until 10:30 am. You may email her with questions or specific needs at swillis@scs-k12.net.
Mrs. Alexa Rickenbaugh is joining our team this year and will work with our friends in 4th and 6th grades. She is generally at RCAAS on Monday and Thursday mornings until 10:30 am. You may email her with questions or specific needs at arickenbaugh@scs-k12.net.
These fabulous counselors also support students at the Sandusky Intermediate School. They teach whole class lessons on a variety of topics including bullying, coping skills, substance abuse prevention, career planning, social skills, dealing with stress, among others. If you have a topic you would like one of the counselors to address with your child directly, please do not hesitate to reach out to his/her teacher and their grade level counselor.
GIFTED FAMILY FOCUS WORKSHOPS
Mark your calendars for these meaningful workshops designed with your gifted child's needs in mind! Our district social workers and RCAAS staff have surveyed our students to determine the best topics to present to families in order to help our students during some difficult years, which have been compounded by the effects of the pandemic. These workshops will take place immediately following our MZ Student Art Gallery Show Openings every other month at RCAAS. Come and enjoy student artwork, then stay for strategies to help your gifted child in their educational and life journeys. We will even have some great prizes to share with participating parents/guardians at each session, so be sure to join us! We will move from the gallery to the auditorium and run the workshops from 5:30-6:30pm on the dates below.
